Literature Text

We take
       time
trickle through the slow cold days
tending our iced hearts
until we can chuckle at Spring

We take
       light
where we can get it, in the slanting rain
and make our arguments
more dry and vigilant than ever

We take
       thought
for all the things hitherto unsaid
using our chances charily
while memory of the sun still serves

And despite all these pills
injections admonitions tests
results
one long dark night might be the longest
darkest yet

We might now take
       respite
from all the old fights – but
how much more
while we have time light thought

can we, now honest, take?
Inspired by gyrite's comment on her magnificently tender poem of the same title (gyrite.deviantart.com/art/The-… ), though of course with completely different intent.

I'm-- so surprised, and so pleased.
May I share this with my friend?  My very first thought was how much he would love it.

Variants of repetition, of course, will always make me happy.  Time, light, and thought, taken-- describing our panacea.

"and make our arguments
more dry and vigilant than ever" --isn't that just the case.

I stumble on "charily" just a little, but I think it's because I'm not used to seeing it... <3

But for me, it's all in the punch of your last line, and that last stanza.  A different kind of "take" described.  Retreat... And resources growing thin, that we must consider.  "The old fights", making me tired even as I read, before asking me the important question.

Well done.
